Placental Encapsulation

For centuries, women in many cultures have ingested their babies’ placenta post birth, in a variety of ways. Some women feel comfortable creating a special recipe for it, adding it to a smoothie or some women even consume it raw. These methods will work, but they limit the length of time you are able to utilize the benefits of the placenta. Bring on the best method of ingestion………..Encapsulation.

The placenta is dried, ground, and encapsulated. The capsules can then be taken daily for a number of weeks. You reap all of the healthful benefits of placenta quickly and easily. The capsules will last indefinitely (for years) when stored. So, when you have recovered from childbirth, you can freeze the capsules and save them. Each placenta’s hormonal make-up is completely unique to the mother.

Women have reported benefits such as:

  • Decrease in baby blues and postpartum depression.

  • Increase and enrich breastmilk. Increase in energy.

  • Decrease in lochia, postpartum bleeding.

  • Decrease iron deficiency.

  • Better quality sleep

Your placenta needs to arrive at the College for processing sometime up to ten hours post birth. IT MUST NOT BE FROZEN and should be refrigerated. It is best just left in a container with minimal handling. You may have to sign your placenta out, in order to remove it from the hospital, if that is where you have chosen to birth.

The Australian Doula College will process your placenta with love and respect within 48 – 72 hours of receiving it.

We will call you when it is ready to be picked up. We use vegetable caps only and follow a tried and tested process that usually yields 120 – 180 caps. We cannot however guarantee the amount of caps we will get from each individual placenta. We recommended taking one cap per day after lunch to begin with and within three days you can take up to three caps per day, however two is usually enough. Your caps should be stored in a dark, moist free place and will remain effective for years. It is essential that you book in for placenta encapsulation prior to your birth, with as much notice to the college as possible.
