“I have no doubt that the conversation she had with the doula made a huge difference”
My elderly mother had been in an aged care facility for nearly 12 months, and had said on a few occasions that she was concerned about dying. Our doula (name removed) visited Mum in hospital and had a conversation with her without any of the family present (as requested). Mum seemed so much more peaceful and content after that. She passed away peacefully within a few weeks, with my sisters and I present. I have no doubt that the conversation she had with the Doula made a huge difference to Mum’s peace of mind and willingness to let go and just be with what was happening. For myself, the conversations before, during and after mum’s death with our Doula made it possible for me to be present with Mum and be able enjoy our last times together in what was a very emotional time.
